End of day 2: Citroën proves it's not all about the looks
It may not look like much, the Citroën Saxo EL, but in the hands of Svein Teistedal of the Alternative Energi Team, it has so far proven to be supreme in the track.
Beating far sportier looking competitors like the Tesla Roadster and the Lampo, the Citroën has turned out to be a bit of a dark horse so far in the competition. The Citroën is in the lead of the electric vehicle class, but only seconds ahead of the Buddy & Valence Team in second and the Tesla from the Ferdinand Motors Team in third.
In the hydrogen class, Dag Bjerketvedt of the Høgskolen i Telemark Team has taken a close lead ahead of the racing sisters Marlene and Veronica Engan of the NAF Team. Both teams drive the Quantum HY Prius.
Although performing strongly in the speed events, race driver Henning Solberg has only landed on 11th in the overall results of the hydrogen vehicle class. Not so suprisingly, Solberg has lost points driving to fast in the regularity legs, were the goal is not to complete in the shortest time, but rather to complete at a pre-decided ideal time.
Racing colleague Leilani Munter seems to be hopelessly behind in the results after being forced to skip most events on the second day due to a broken drive shaft.
